Social Setting #1 Recap
We did it! Yes we. An amazing community of Black influencers & marketers at some of the top brands came together on April 18th to bring to life the first event of Social Feed’s experiential arm — Social Setting.
ICYMI: Social Setting is an extension of the newsletter, meant to bring the mission of greater exposure for Black influencers IRL. That said, the kickoff event allowed a diverse batch of talent to enjoy a private dinner with brand leads in their categories.
With a final guestlist handpicked by yours truly, I made sure that this would be a valuable night for all guests. Without disclosing the full list prior, there was an element of surprise that naturally attracted those with open minds.
Check out the final crew that ended up attending with me:
When I first decided that I wanted to do this series, Tatiana by Kwame Onwuachi stood out as the perfect place to start. This Black-owned restaurant not only embodies the soulfulness I want in my events, but its ongoing accolades (and difficulty securing a reservation) are an example of categorical excellence.
Together in the private dining room, 14 of us enjoyed an amazing 3-course dinner that offered a full spread of the restaurant’s most popular dishes. While the food was absolutely delicious, it was truly the people and the conversation that really brought the flavor to the night.
I’ve been to loads of influencer events in my career; but (intentionally) this was like no other. As proud as I was to host, it was very important to me that every single person had a chance to speak & shine. Therefore, with a guided roundtable discussion we got professionally acquainted, but personally connected.
The core of influencer marketing is truly relationships. We often think about the relationship between influencers and their audiences; however, the relationships between influencers & brands needs just as much nurturing.
That said, as I sit on the brand-side myself, I recognize so many different ways to tackle gaps in influencer diversity. Nonetheless, I believe that helping Black influencers form their own personal relationships is critical to truly supporting the cause.
I’ve felt such a high this month, coming off all of the support & love everyone is showing for this platform. It means the world to me to have a mission I so deeply believe in be embraced with enthusiasm. And in addition to the event support, it’s worth noting that our online community here is also growing.
Thanks to readers like you, we’re literally just a few people away from the milestone of 500 corporate subscribers to Social Feed — that’s nearly 500 individuals that I greatly appreciate for joining my journey in its early stages.
I look forward to giving you even more as time continues.
